For clients who have particular issues in their body, whether this is limited mobility in an arm or a leg, or difficulty sitting or lying down for extended periods of time, we suggest that they book an extended Mobilisation Treatment session with one of our therapists. This is generally 90 minutes long in order to give the therapist time to conduct a full body assessment and diagnosis, and following that he or she will conduct the first treatment.
Each new client will be asked to complete an assessment form which the therapist will use to guide him or her to the main problematic areas of the body; but at the same time they will also do a full body scan by asking the client to stand front-ways, back to front and to the left side and right side. This gives the therapist a more comprehensive view of:
- overall posture
- alignment of shoulders, shoulder blades, hips, knees, spine and ribs
- position of the head and neck
You will be surprised at what some clients forget to include in their self assessment form, and for this reason the therapist's full body assessment will pick up on irregularities that the client may not have been aware of.
We call our therapeutic treatments 'holistic' because the whole body is considered in the treatment programme, e.g. if the left leg is longer than the right - this could be the cause of pain in one of the hips or shoulders or both. For that reason the leg length is corrected and also any other irregularities (possibly caused by the initial leg irregularity) are corrected also.
The therapist will spend a lot of time during a treatment session tuning in the tension points and blockages in the body. They are experienced enough to know whether a body section or part is flexible and relaxed enough to conduct a particular movement or position. Nothing is forced in to place if the body is not 100 % responsive as this can be counterproductive and cause the client more pain and discomfort. It is for this reason that we suggest at least four to five sessions for:
- the body to relax fully, e.g. if it has been in tension for many months it has to learn to relax and soften but in its own good time
- the body to learn the correct position of hips, shoulders etc. If it is has learnt an incorrect position it can take more than two sessions to learn the correct position or correct way of performing a movement.
This full body treatment is very gentle but also very powerful at the same time. It has been likened to conducting half a marathon. This is because the treatment will initiate the client's own self healing process. We therefore suggest that you do not conduct any heavy physical work or exercise after a treatments - instead listen to what your body wants to do, i.e. if you feel tired maybe take a short nap when you get home.
The therapist may suggest some simple exercises for the client to practice at home, e.g. in cases of a frozen shoulder a client may be asked to conduct a simple hand and arm movement up against a wall or door, a few times a day. Performing the 'home work' will help to speed up the healing process.
